Stones That Mark – Plus Three Years

Just about three years ago I added this post. It talked about an important milestone in my life and, since I’m me, it included a discussion of the history of milestones. At the time I wrote: “My goals when milestones hit: Reflect. Learn. Do not dwell on or fret about that which you cannot control. And most important: move forward with a positive outlook for the future.”

I believe I have done all those things in the three years since this important, necessary, very sad but also exciting milestone in my life. We are all works in progress and NEVER too far into our journey to grow and develop and improve and shed baggage and strengthen our connection with the universe. And to help celebrate this anniversary I get to mark a new one – later this month my younger offspring starts a momentous new journey in his charmed teenage life. I have been bursting with pride at how he has managed his extraordinary talent, how hard he works, how grounded he remains, how so many others are now discovering all this about him, and most importantly how good his big heart is.

And in a few more months, a new generation in my family will commence with my first great-nephew or niece. All great stuff! Of course not all in life is good, as several senior family members are facing issues in the twilight of their amazing lives. As sad as that is, however, in both cases it is about choosing and controlling and having peace with your path, even at the end.

And I guess something else happened in the three years since this milestone. I was reminded of the importance of focusing less on the milestones and more on the moment to moment, day to day wonders that are human existence on this tiny speck we call home. Where we came from, where we’re going, can be topics for another day. Let’s just all remember to consistently show our love and appreciation for all those who matter, and do our best to make every day meaningful and impactful. Here’s to the next 3 years and many more after that!
