Stones that Mark

They date back to the Roman Empire and originally referred to stones in the innovative Roman road system letting you know each mile that passed back when a few miles’ travel per day was an achievement. Over the years, however, the term “milestone” has also become defined as “an important event, as in a child’s development, the history of a nation, or the advancement of knowledge in a field; a turning point.”

A few weeks ago, while not as dramatic as the history of a nation, an important milestone, a turning point, in my life occurred. It’s personal so the details, as they say in some private M&A deals, are not being disclosed. But a milestone it was. One that was unfortunately inevitable and necessary but also sad. Certain doors closed. But with those doors closed, others opened. For all parties involved. And all of you in my life who helped me to reach this milestone, you know who you are and I thank and love you all.

Sometimes life’s milestones overwhelm, at times with joy and glee, other times with incredible sadness, or sometimes a combination of those and other emotions. My goals when milestones hit: Reflect. Learn. Do not dwell on or fret about that which you cannot control. And most important: move forward with a positive outlook for the future.
