Entrepreneur Tip of the Week: Manage with Incentive and Communication

It’s an almost overused phrase to say, “communication is key.” Without good interaction with your employees, frustration and resentment can develop. And great leaders are the ones who avoid raising their voice. As with children, sometimes a stern disappointing look will do more than screaming. This may yield a form of compliance but not a form you prefer. My rule: it’s nice to be nice.

Remember, to get loyalty you must give it. This starts with keeping the lines of communication open and providing meaningful incentives to your employees. While macromanaging is a positive approach for entrepreneurs, you do not want your distance with your employees to be interpreted as disregard. Find ways to show interest in their work and their lives.

You must find a balance between focusing on building your business and attending to your employees’ satisfaction. Both are critically important!
