“Biggest Loser” Sued For Regaining Weight

Tara Costa, an alum of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” lost 155 pounds on the show. Now she has a little problem. She agreed to endorse and promote a fitness company. The company has now sued her. According to www.businessinsider.com, the company claims that Costa “had gained far too much weight,” and is no longer able to be the public face of the company.

Apparently there is a provision in her contract that says she “agrees to maintain her current level of fitness and conditioning.” Interesting that they didn’t simply say she can’t gain weight. One wonders if she could prove she was still working out but gained weight anyway whether she would prevail. This also highlights what some critics have said about the show, that the rapid weight loss it encourages creates a greater likelihood of regaining the weight. Others say that suddenly moving to intense workouts with trainers after years of sitting around may not be wise.

But the show and its franchise are a huge hit around the world. And helping focus folks on the importance of conditioning and a healthy lifestyle are certainly good things. I never liked the name though.
