Former SEC Enforcement Chief Khuzami Joins Kirkland & Ellis

For a reported (according to www.abovethelaw.com) $5 million a year, former head of SEC’s enforcement division Robert Khuzami has joined the giant law firm Kirkland & Ellis. One assumes he will now use his expertise and knowledge as to SEC enforcement practices and policies to defend alleged wrongdoers against the Commission.

This is pretty common. Current SEC Chair Mary Jo White jumped from prosecuting bad guys for 10 years to representing them for 10 years. It’s reasonable to assume that balanced experience bodes her well in her role now balancing the encouragement of capital formation with the protection of investors.

Hopefully it’s the merits of cases and not the reputation of the lawyer that wins or settles cases. Sorry, I tried to say that with a straight face. I have shared panels at the SEC with Robert Khuzami and I believe him a well-intentioned and smart individual. Congrats Mr. Khuzami and best of luck in the new gig.
